The Psychology of Projection in Conflict
I have chosen and quoted words to illustrate my discussion about the significance of projection and the importance of unconscious emotional content in any conflict.
Robert J. Burrowes Global News Centre
(TASMANIA) Understanding human conflict requires us to understand human psychology. And it is only when we understand the psychology that drives conflict that we can take intelligent steps to address it.
Letter to Jeb Bush: torture is never justifiable
Remember what went on at Abu Ghraib, at the Guantánamo Bay detention camp and our extraordinary rendition program (secret abductions and transfers of prisoners to other countries where torture was used)?
d animals for sport.
Ralph E. Stone Global News Centre
(SAN FRANCISCO) Mr. Bush — or Jeb if you don’t mind — I was greatly disturbed to hear that if you became president you won’t rule out the resumption of the use of torture arguing that brutal questioning methods might be justifiable and necessary in some circumstances. Jeb, torture is never justifiable.
President Obama banned CIA torture by executive order in January 2009. I urge you to reconsider your statement concerning torture and agree to leave President Obama’s executive order in place. I don’t want a president who would use torture.
Iranyi publishes book of pre-earthquake Arg-E-Bam photos
Bam declined in importance following an Afghan invasion in 1722 in 1722 and another invasion in 1810. The city was used as a barracks for the army until 1932 and then completely abandoned.
Ralph E. Stone Global News Centre
(SAN FRANCISCO) Judi Iranyi recently published a book of her photographs of Arg-e-Bam (Bam) during her November 2002 trip to Iran.
The ruined city of Bam is located in southeastern Iran. It is made entirely of mud bricks, clay, straw, and the trunks of palm trees. The city was originally founded during the Sassanian period (224-637) and while some of the surviving structures date from before the 12th century, most of what remains today dates to the Safavid period (1502-1722). During Safavid times, the city occupied six square kilometers, was surrounded by a rampart with 38 towers, and had between 9000 and 13,000 inhabitants.

Marianne Skolek Global News Centre
(MYRTLE BEACH) This article is dedicated to the family of Brian David Robinson from Caro, Michigan who served his country and lost his life — not in Iraq or Afghanistan — but in the U.S. after numerous hospitalizations at Veterans Administration hospitals being treated for post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and addiction. Here is Brian’s story similar to tens of thousands of other veterans stories who have lost their lives after medical treatment at veterans hospitals with prescription opioids handed out like candy.
Iraq and Afghanistan veterans poisoned by open burn pits
VA insists there are no long-term health effects of exposure to burn pits. Veterans sue defense contractors.
Robert O’Dowd Global News Centre
(SALEM) Dioxin is one of the deadly toxins from incomplete combustion from open burn pits. This is the same carcinogen found in Agent Orange and other herbicides used in Vietnam, killing thousands of veterans.
“Combustion byproducts” is a common term for the chemical mixture that is caused by burning petroleum fuels (e.g., gasoline, heating oil, jet fuel, and diesel).
Transfer Shaker Aamer from Guantanamo
Shaker Aamer was arrested by Afghan forces in late 2001 in Jalalabad, Afghanistan and subsequently transferred to US custody. He is originally from Saudi Arabia, and his wife and four children are all British nationals and currently live in London.
William Nicholas Gomes Global News Centre Human Rights Ambassador
(YORK) Shaker Aamer has been held without charge by the U.S. government at Guantánamo for over 12 years. He remains in custody even though he has been cleared for transfer and the British government has called for his release. In the following article, William Nicholas Gomes, Human Rights Ambassador for Global News Centre, asks US President Barack Obama to set Shaker Aamer free.
Senate Torture Report released but does the American public really care?
The release of the Report should have reminded Americans that human torture is not only morally unacceptable – it is also a crime.
Ralph E. Stone Global News Centre
(SAN FRANCISCO) I, for one, applaud the release of the Senate Torture Report and urge those responsible be held accountable. Kudos to Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif), Chairman of the Select Committee on Intelligence, for getting the executive summary released to the public.
The Report is available online. The print version is available for purchase at GPO’s retail and online bookstore.
Release the Senate Torture Report now
There is no legitimate reason why the Torture Report should not be released now.
Ralph E. Stone Global News Centre
(SAN FRANCISCO) I urge Senator Dianne Feinstein (D. CA) to expedite the release of the Senate Torture Report before she loses her position as Chairman of the Select Committee on Intelligence (SSCI). Once the Republicans take over the Committee, I fear the Torture Report will never see the light of day or if it does, it will be so heavily redacted by the CIA as to render it of little use to the public. The Torture Report has been approved for public release. The public has a right to know.
Why do good people become silent about 9/11? (Part ONE of TWO)
Why do Good People Become Silent About the Documentable Facts That Disprove the Official White House Conspiracy Theory About 9/11? – Part ONE
Gary G. Kohls, MD Global News Centre Guest Columnist
(DULUTH) “It is my firm belief that 9/11 skeptics—and true skeptics of any paradigm-shifting and taboo subject—who publicly expose lies and naked emperors are heroes who have come out of waiting, for we have suffered the ridicule and wrath of those emperors, their minions, and the just plain frightened.
Afghanistan: photography by Tim King
I sometimes forget how much I enjoy taking photos, and sharing them with people.
Tim King Global News Centre
(SALEM) Photography is such a varied art. There are so many approaches, and endless options when documenting the world visually.
I am primarily a writer, but my media life has never been limited, to say the least. I entered the business hoping to become a jack of all media trades and while I am just one more person doing this, I am pleased with some of the results.
Bamboozled since 9/11/01: another call to find out who orchestrated the controlled demolitions of WTC Towers 1, 2 & 7
Or at Least Subpoena Dick Cheney Before He Checks Out…
Gary G. Kohls, MD Global News Centre Guest Columnist
(DULUTH) “One of the saddest lessons of history is this: If we’ve been bamboozled long enough, we tend to reject any evidence of the bamboozle. We’re no longer interested in finding out the truth. The bamboozle has captured us. It’s simply too painful to acknowledge, even to ourselves, that we’ve been taken. Once you give a charlatan power over you, you almost never get it back.” – Carl Sagan
“It also gives us a very special, secret pleasure to see how unaware the people around us are of what is really happening to them.”- Adolf Hitler
